Improving Your Bidding Skills
by Edwin B. Kantar
|
If pitching is 70% of the game of baseball then bidding is at least 75% of the game of bridge. Good bidders are winning players. But why do some players bid so much better than others? There are several reasons: experience, communication, evaluation, visualization, bidding in competition and temperament.
Improving Your Bidding Skills is divided into four sections, the first deals with basic bidding sequences, more or less a review, the second deals with sequences involving doubles, the third with competitive bidding and the fourth is a hodge podge visualization, review and finally some bidding problems from World Championship play.
The reader is to assume he is playing rubber bridge or, better, team of four. There are 35 quizzes in all. 33 of them have 15 questions and the odd two have 20 questions.
This is the type of book that is best used in conjunction with your favorite partner. If nothing else, it will give the partnership food for thought, and it will avoid many costly bidding misunderstandings.
